Berlin Trying For Its Own Domain Name
Businessman Dirk Krischenowski is bidding to make his city the first ever with its own TLD.
Krischenowski says, “It’s spelled the same in both English and German, and has no accents over its letters.†This is an advantage since Berlin is regarded as part of the continent’s identity. “It would be great for tourism,†he says.
ICANN states that creation of geographical TLDs must be supported by applicable government agencies. Lawyers experienced in the domain name TLD proposal business declare this isn’t easy. Getting it to pass government approval is fairly easy, but getting past the fickle ICANN board is extremely tricky. (more…)

The first phase of the .eu domain name launch takes place today. Public bodies and holders of registered trade marks can apply for the names. Where two or more have legitimate interests in the same name, the first applicant will be the winner.

iPowerWeb lowers domain price $2.95 per domain!
iPowerWeb has lowered it’s domain price to $2.95 per domain! following the lead of Yahoo, which is offering limited-time domain pricing of $2.99 a year.
Netfirms ($4.95 a year) and 1&1 Internet ($5.99 a year) are currently offering the lowest non-promotional pricing on domain names, while Go Daddy is offering names for $1.99 with every non-domain product (including email and SSL certificates in addition to hosting) and 1&1 is offering private domain registrations at no cost.
