Setting up Gmail Google Hosted through cPanel

Google Hosted Beta was released few months back. This special beta test lets you give Gmail, Google’s webmail service, to every user at your domain. Gmail for your domain is hosted by Google, so there’s no hardware or software for you to install or maintain. Google right now gives this service only on request. (MSN / Live.com is also a provides this feature)

It can be done in few simple steps through cPanel and WHM

In cPanel :

1. Login to your cPanel. ( ../frontend/x/index.html )

2. Go to Mail ( ../frontend/x/mail/email.html )

3. Click on Modify Mail Exchanger (MX Entry)

4. Go to Change an MX Entry

5. Change the yourdomain.com to any of the following.

  • ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
  • ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
  • ALT2.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
  • ASPMX2.GOOGLEMAIL.COM.
  • ASPMX3.GOOGLEMAIL.COM.
  • ASPMX4.GOOGLEMAIL.COM.
  • ASPMX5.GOOGLEMAIL.COM.

Your Gmail Hosted should be up within a day (usually instantly).

Yahoo, EBay Drop E-Biz Bombshell

EBay and Yahoo dropped an announcement bomb early this morning saying that the two Internet giants have agreed to combine their efforts on a number of projects. By 2007, expect an increase in eBay search results on Yahoo!, an increase of contextual text and graphical ads on eBay, PayPal to power Yahoo! Wallet, a co-branded eBay Toolbar, and click-to-call advertising using Yahoo! Messenger with Voice and Skype.

GoDaddy files for initial public offering

Looks like Godaddy is getting rich, Go Daddy filed its initial public offering Friday with the Securities Exchange Commission, seeking as much as $200 million in Class A common stock.

The number of shares to be offered and the price range for the offering have not yet been determined, according to company officials. According to documents filed with the SEC, the company hired Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch & Co., UBS Investment Bank, Cowen and Co., Piper Jaffray and JMP Securities to underwrite the IPO.

The Scottsdale-based Internet domain registration company, now registered as The Go Daddy Group Inc., gained significant notoriety for its provocative and alluring TV ads. The company made national headlines the past two years for its Super Bowl commercials. The content of its 2005 ad caused the National Football League to pull the commercial after one showing. The resulting controversy was worth millions in free publicity to Go Daddy, according to published reports.

New York Passing New Domain Name Law

In a move that flies in the face of established international guidelines, the New York Senate is pushing through a bill that would forbid registering the name of a living person with the purpose of selling the domain to that person.

The New York Senate’s bill is called “domain names cyber piracy protections act” and is championed by State Senator Betty Little (S2306).

Generally speaking, registering a person’s name solely to sell the domain to that person is a losing cause in UDRP arbitrations.

ICANN Rejects .XXX Sponsored Top Level Domain Agreement

Today, ICANN’s Board of Directors voted against a proposed agreement for a .XXX. Sponsored Top Level Domain (sTLD). The application was proposed by the ICM Registry.

The application has received much public comment and detailed discussion by the ICANN Board. Reflecting the diversity of views this application has generated, the Board discussion at today’s meeting focused on the criteria for the sTLD, especially for sponsorship, and the terms of the contract proposed by ICM, including compliance issues related to key terms associated with public policy concerns. ICM had proposed additional terms in response to issues raised by ICANN’s Governmental Advisory Committee, particularly at ICANN’s meeting in Wellington in March. http:// www.icann.org/announcements/announcement1-18apr06.htm

ICM had requested that the ICANN Board vote on the proposed contract at this meeting.

Yahoo Sued for Spyware, Typosquatting-Based Ads

A class-action lawsuit filed Monday against Yahoo! Inc. and group of unnamed third-parties accuses the company of engaging in “syndication fraud” against advertisers who pay Yahoo to display their ads on search results and on the Web pages of partner Web sites. The suit claims that Yahoo displayed these advertisers’ online ads via spyware and adware products and on so-called “typosquatter” Web sites that capitalize on misspellings of popular trademarks or company names.

Googles “Big Daddy” update drops over 1.4billion pages

Google’s “Big Daddy” update has been reported to be rapidly dropping indexed pages. Search engine watchers have estmated that well over 1.4 billion indexed pages have been dropped.

“CNN.com” last week dropped from over 40million indexed pages down to just 150 - in that time the index for cnn.com has slowly built back up.

Google have been working on a fix for this error and reported that there servers were “nearly at full capacity” as they are now trying to rebuild the lost indexes.
