EurID puts all Ovidio .eu domains ON HOLD or QUARANTAINE
After the recent suspention of 74,000 domains EurID has recently changed the status of a certain number of registered .eu domain names. The status of about 74.000 .eu domain names has been changed from “active†to “ON HOLD†or “QUARANTAINE”.
As a consequence of this action from EurID, the number of active .eu domain names has dropped below the 2 million figure (figure that was reached earlier on this month). According to the EurID stats there are now 1.980.059 registered .eu domains.
It appears that EurID might be investigating the .eu domain name registrations of some Chyprus based companies (Ovidio Limited, Fausto Ltd and Gabino Ltd). It seems to be that they registered 74.000 valuable .eu domain names in “landrush 2″.

EURid suspends 74 000 .eu domains and sued 400 registrars for breach of contract
EURid, the non profit organisation operating the Internet top level domain .eu, has suspended 74 000 .eu domain names and has sued 400 registrars for breach of contract. This move was prompted by abusive behavior from a syndicate of registrars who have systematically acquired domain names with the obvious intent of selling them. In the domain name business this is called warehousing and is not permitted.
“In this case we are convinced that the domain name holders of the 74 000 .eu names (Ovidio Ltd, Fausto Ltd and Gabino Ltd) are acting as a front for a number of registrars. The domain name holders and the registrars can be regarded as one and the same. Since registrars should only register domain names for existing customers and not “warehouse†the names in order to resell them at a higher price, this is clearly in breach of the registrar contract,†says Herman Sobrie, Legal Manager of EURid.
Within the limits of the EC regulations (733/2002 & 874/2004,) EURid strives to maintain .eu as an attractive top level domain for Europeans who want to convey a European Identity on the Internet. When the system is abused there is a risk that the perceived value of .eu will decrease, not only for the almost two million legitimate holders of .eu domain names but also for all fair registrars. That is why EURid wants to act firmly against any improper behavior regarding .eu domain names.

Domain Names for $2.99 at IPOWER
Web hosting and Domain provider IPOWER is giving out domains for as low as 2.99 USD. This is probably the cheapest price for domains right now, compared to top registrars like Godaddy, Registerfly, Namecheap etc where domains can hardly come down to 6 or at max 5 USD after applying promo codes or offers. Yahoo! Domains is another service which provide domains this low but again is trouble there, I’m great fan of Yahoo! but the domains is the only service which lets me, infact anyone down.

Another notable feature is the Free Domain Privacy, currently only Registerfly is known to provide Domain Privacy for free with other competitors charging $8.00-$15.00 per year. So far IPOWER domains looks promosing without any known issues.
